YAPP Capture the Flag and Dodgeball afternoon

We have just hosted the popular YAPP Capture the Flag and Dodgeball Event. 130 students from different schools in the city rotated between games of Capture the Flag out on the field and Dodgeball in the Gym. Lots of fun was had by everyone. It was also impressive to see the students from the different schools work together to negotiate the adherence of rules in games that do not have officials. Well done to everyone involved.

Grade 3 - How We Express Ourselves

Grade 3 students have been dancing in PE classes and have been focusing on how dance can convoy a message. This week we have been doing this trying to tell well known folk / fairy stories through a dance.

Here are the results from Ms Claire's class. Can you work out what the story is represented in each dance? (Sorry for the poor sound recording - there was music in real life!)

New Units

The students are now into the second week of the 5th units of the year. Grade 5 students are participating in a new Gymnastics unit, with the focus for them being Rhythmic Gymnastics. This is involving them putting together floor routines using a variety of different gymnastic moves, such as rolls, jumps and balances, while at the same manipulating either a ball, hoop or ribbon. We are seeing some really high level moves and we have also notice lots of G5 students teaching the skills to younger students at recess and lunchtimes.

Grade 4 students are also participating in a new unit for the programme, by exploring different target games. This unit will culminate with them creating thier own target games. So far we have used our PE equipment to played modified Boules, 10 Pin Bowling and Quoits. We also turned the field into a Golf Driving Range.

In Grade 3, the students are participating in a creative dance unit. We are starting off by working in small groups to develop a range of dance steps. Our long term aim is for the students to create a dance that tells a story.
Kindergarten students are also expressing themselves through dance and some yoga in their classes. Star War themed yoga being the most popular activity so far.  Both of these units link in with the How We Express Ourselves Units taught in class.

G1 students are playing different ball games and are developing their sending and receiving skills, while G2 students are using similar skills to playing different types of Invasion Games.
