Kindergarten PE - Friendships in PE

In our Cooperation Games unit we have been integrating with the homeroom Unit of Inquiry, by looking at some of the practical aspects of the Central Idea, which is:
Making and maintaining friendships is essential to our well-being.

In the activity below students had great fun saving the animals from the rising flood. They had to
learning how to share the trolly boards with their friends, which is not always easy as well as playing
safely.

In other activities we have focussed on working together with your friends to complete the task, such as transporting the balls around the obstacle course with out dropping them. The students have also had great fun playing together with the parachute.

Grade 2: P.E. and "Who We Are"

Grade 2: P.E. and the homeroom classes have been making wonderful connections with their Unit of Inquiry,  "Who We Are".  After playing several tag games, Gr 2 discussed the different ways their body had changed.  These discoveries (pictured below) created some interesting wonderings. From those wonderings students are inquiring into the answers within their homeroom. Today students from 2KT presented their findings. You can see their posters below.

Grade 3 PE: Cooperative Games

Grade 3 PE: Cooperative Games

Central Idea:
The decisions we make together help us to cooperate and organise ourselves.

During P.E. Grade 3 have been participating in a variety of team building challenges, focussing and reflecting on such questions like:
  • How do we work as a team?
  • How best can we communicate in a team to make a decision?
  • What should we do when different people have different ideas?
  • How can we individually and as a team solve problems?

The River Crossing Challenge, pictured below always creates excitement; plenty of valuable discussions, problem solving ideas, wonderings and discoveries. This is a trans disciplinary unit with the homeroom classes.

Essential Agreements in PE

This week in PE, as well as playing lots of fun and active games, we have been working out our Essential Agreements about how we learn best in PE. In each class, students came up with lots of great ideas, which were then sorted through to come up with a few overriding statements. The examples below shown the ideas of Grade 4 and 5 classes

Welcome back

Welcome back to our returning and new families. PE and Swimming has started.

This year Early Years PE and Swimming will be taken by Ms Anne, who will also teach KG Swimming. Mr Andy will be taking Ms Melinda's KG for PE as well as all the Grade 2, 3 and 5 PE and Swimming. Grade 1 and Grade 4 students along with Ms Sara's and Ms Brittany's KG students will be taught by Mr Ben, who will also be teaching Grade 5 PE. Please feel free to contact us at school with any questions you have about your child's PE or Swimming lessons.

We would like to ask for your assistance in helping the students remember to wear PE kit and sports shoes on their scheduled days for PE, and to bring their swim kit on swimming days. Students who are  unable to swim for medical reasons should come to school with a Doctor's note excusing them.

Students will participate in a range of units throughout the year - a variety of games, individual activities, creative movement and cooperation activities. We will be hosting Sports Days in december and older students will get the opportunity to participate in sports against other schools in the city. Please see the school calendar for dates.
