Developing Physical Literacy - A Home & School Partnership

  1. Physical literacy is when an individual has the motivation, confidence, physical competence and  knowledge and understanding so that they can and choose to participate in purposeful  physical activity as part of their lifestyle.
  2. We work hard in the PE Department to plan lessons that the students enjoy and can succeed in, but that are also challenging them. These lessons help them develop their gross and fine motor skills. We also help students try to develop their knowledge and understanding of different techniques or strategies and tactics as well as involving them in a range of roles - players, coaches, officials. We do this across a range of different physical activities - gymnastics, invasion games, swimming, athletics, dance, ball games, cooperation activities - to help them become physical literate.
  3. Developing their Physical Literacy is a partnership and there are numerous way you can help your child - running around the garden, playing tag, playing catch, going swimming, bike rides, hula hooping, skipping, rolling on the bed - and much more.
  4. In the PE Department, we love this video.
