Swim Meet Dates

Friendly Meets
We hold small scale 'Friendly Meets', typically against one other school, where do not keep a record of number of wins or points earned. these events are usually held after school during Swim Squad scheduled sessions. The first of these meets will be Tuesday the 9th September with East West School. It will be held at ISPP Elementary Pool from 2.30-4pm. More meets will be scheduled as the year progresses.

Saturday Morning Meets
We also participate in Saturday Morning Meets (8am - noon), where 5 or 6 International Schools in the city compete. These meets are more competitive - students earn points for the school, depending on their placing in the races and there are Team Trophies at the end of the morning. The dates for these meets are as follows;

4th October - hosted by NISC @ NISC
13th December - hosted by LOGOS @ Cambodia Country Club
31st January - hosted by iCAN @ Olympic Pool (50 metres)
21st March - hosted by HOPE @ ISPP Secondary (tbc)
2nd May - hosted by ISPP @ ISPP Secondary

Invitational Meets

These swim meets are another step up and include a much larger number of races and typically involve International Schools from several countries. Dates for the Invitational Meets that we will be participating in are as follows;

Friday 28th & Saturday 29th November - ISPP Invitational Meet
(We will require a great deal of parental help at this meet - hosting visiting swimmers, officials on the pool deck & the behind the scene work. We will be in contact soon to ask for your help!)

Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th May - ISHCMC Invitational Meet, Vietnam (leaving ISPP on Friday 8th)

(We will be limited to the number of swimmers we can take to this meet. Coaches will select teams based on swimmers commitment throughout the year, swimming ability and ability to meet the qualifying times set by the host school).)

Please find below a copy of letter that came home with students at the start of the semester regarding joining the Swim Squad

Dear Parents,

Your child has expressed an interest in joining the ISPP Swim Squad. The focus of the squad is to develop each individual’s stroke technique, starts and turns and improve their swimming fitness. Members of the swim squad will also participate in the swim meets held in Phnom Penh against other international schools.
The Swim Squad is open to students from Grade 2 upwards, who are competently able to swim several lengths of the ISPP pool, without resting on the wall. Due to the size of our pool we are limited to the number of students that we can accept in the Swim Squad. Swimmers who wish to be a member of the squad must be available to swim their scheduled practice each week. Training is regular and consistent; therefore students need to commit to attending practice weekly.
Swim Squad session will be run at the following times:
Mondays – Silver Squad 3.20pm – 4.20pm at the Secondary campus (this group will be held at the same time as the Secondary Gold Squad). We will travel on hired buses between the campuses, leaving Elementary at 2.30pm.
Please note that as the swimming pool on Secondary campus is not yet ready to swim in, we will hold the silver squad sessions on Tuesday at Elementary from 3.15pm-4.15pm until early September. You will be informed when we will be able to move this session to the Monday slot.
Tuesday – Bronze Squad – 2.30-3.15pm at ISPP Elementary Pool.
Additional optional sessions will also be held on the following days:
Wednesday lunchtime – Silver and Bronze Squad – 12.10pm-12.35pm at ISPP Elementary pool
Thursday before school- Silver and Bronze Squad – 6.30am-7.10am at ISPP Elementary pool (students will need to bring some breakfast items to eat after swimming has finished)
Placement Session
On Tuesday 12th August there will be two placement sessions:
2.30pm-3.15pm – Students in Grade 2/3 and students who are new to the Swim Squad
3.15pm-4.00pm – Students in G4/5 who swam in the Swim Squad last year
These sessions will act as a two-way try-out, in order for the students to decide if they really want to join the Swim Squad and for us to see which squad they should be placed in.  There are also numerous swimming lessons offered by the After School Programme, which may be at a more appropriate for some students.
If you give your permission for your child to take part in the Swim Squad you need to complete the permission slip below and return it to me at school.

If you have any questions regarding the Swim Squad please feel free to contact me at school (benwiggins@ispp.edu.kh) .
Yours sincerely,

Ben Wiggins
