Grade 3 Parachute Games

As part of their UOI, "How We Organize Ourselves," grade three learners were playing with the parachute earlier this week.

In order to get started, learners had to get the parachute from the bag, unfold it, walk with it to a big space in the gym, and get themselves around the parachute to start playing. They realized that they couldn't just pull the parachute all at the same time, and had to communicate to be able to work as a team. Some students acted more as leaders, trying to figure out the best way for all of them to move with the parachute to a bigger space, while others were listening and coming to an agreement.

As they started playing, they took ownership of their own learning by having a leader who would get them started with the game. They knew that they had to hold the parachute and be focused on the activity to help their team to be successful.

Little by little, third graders are starting to understand the importance of communication and teamwork to achieve their goals.
