Parents Meeting Presentation 2018

Initial Letter Home 2018

Dear Parents,

I am writing to you to inform you about the Grade 4 and Grade 5 Angkor Wat Run and Bike Race Trip which takes place from Friday 30 November to Sunday the 2 December 2018. There will be a parent meeting directly after the Elementary assembly on Friday 14 September (8.15am) in the Black Box where we go into more detail about the trip and answer any questions you might have.

This trip is open to all students in Grade 4 and Grade 5 who would like to participate and are prepared to commit to completing the Monday lunchtime running activities and the three Sunday morning bike sessions. At this stage, please carefully consider whether your child can commit to the training program and shows the maturity and behaviour standards required for this residential trip.

The  outline programme for the trip is indicated below:
Friday 30 November - depart ISPP on bus, swimming at hotel in Siem Reap
Saturday 1 December - morning - 17km bike race; afternoon - trip to temples and swimming at hotel
Sunday 2 December - 3km fun run; bus back to ISPP, returning late afternoon

The trip will be lead by me and Leticia Carino, and assisted by several other staff members, whom we are in the process of confirming.

We will be setting up a training schedule that will run in the months leading up to the trip. This will involve lunchtime running activities at school on Mondays and bike sessions. We expect the students to commit to all three early morning Sunday bike rides. The dates for these sessions are:
Sunday 16 September
Sunday 21 October
Sunday 4 November

The first bike session will be at 8am on Sunday 16 September. We will meet in the school car park and will cycle for one hour. Parents are welcome to come and cycle with their children during these sessions. The students will need to have access to a roadworthy bike and a cycle helmet. We have a limited number of bikes available for hire for the trip for an addition $15 fee. If you would like to choose this option, you need to indicate this on the permission form.

The hotel where we will be staying, Empress Angkor (http://www.empressangkor.com), is located about 2km out of the town centre and has a  swimming pool and outdoor space. Students will be staying in shared rooms (in a group of two or three), which have ensuite bathrooms. We will travel on buses with seat belts, that we will hire for the duration of the trip.

The fee for the trip is $240. This includes accommodation, food and water, transport (participants and bikes) and entry fees for the 3km run and the bike race. ISPP policy requires that each child has an up-to-date medical travel insurance for this trip. If you do not have insurance, the school can arrange for this to be purchased for the weekend for an additional $15. We also expect all students to wear an ISPP cycle shirt while riding and running. These shirts are the same as last year and can be purchased for $22 from the finance office, (if your child has one from last year, they can wear this and do not need to purchase another).

If you would like you child to participate in this trip, please complete the online permission form (https://goo.gl/BhpjGD)  and make the full payment (which acts as a non-returnable deposit) to the Finance Office by Friday 21 September.
